Jim’s Cleaning to give the UK a spit and polish - Australian Times Report

Australian Times report: 6 April 2010

When David Ayliffe made the decision to swap his army greens for washing up gloves, it was a decision that certainly changed his life.

In 2001, Mr Ayliffe left the Army and started from scratch to set up a Jim’s Mowing franchise with his wife Joanne, in Townsville.

Then in 2003 they had the opportunity to establish the cleaning division of the business in North Queensland.

Jim’s Cleaning is a division of the World’s biggest home service franchise group, part of Jim’s Group, which has launched over 3000 franchises worldwide and is now a household name in Australia.

Jim’s Cleaning is the second biggest division, boasting over 300 franchisees in Australia and new Zealand.

While his decision to set up Jim’s Cleaning in north Queensland was a bold one, Mr Ayliffe said he hasn’t looked back.
Thanks to his hard work and a lot of elbow grease, Mr Alyiffe said his franchise was a profitable success.

“We were responsible for establishing the cleaning brand and the cleaning services to the people of nQ. It was very challenging but also very rewarding. Before long we had established a great business which people wanted to use,” he said.

“After about eight months of hands- on training, we started to franchise the business to other like-minded people who wanted to start their own businesses.”

In 2008 it was time for The Ayliffe’s to make another big decision. he packed up their lives and moved to the UK. David and Joanna have piloted the cleaning franchise in north hertfordshire in April 2008, working hard to re-adapt the franchise model to the UK market.

now they are facilitating the launch of similar franchises in and around London.

“We chose hertfordshire because that is where Joanna grew up,” he said.

“We are now very confident about our franchise model here in the UK, it has been very successful for us and it has been as successful for our first franchisees.”

It is a perfect opportunity to get in at the grass roots, said David.

“It’s perfect for anyone that wants to have a crack at setting themselves up,” he enthused.

He said Jim’s Group is not an employment agency nor do they sub- contract the work out, and that all of Jim’s franchisees are owner-operated.

“The person conducting the quoting and the cleaning for the client is the owner of the business. This gives the customer greater peace of mind, as the owner tends to provide better customer care and more attention to detail,” he said.
